To listen and read with our service, you need to have a subscription with Storytel and be logged into the Storytel app. The Storytel app can be downloaded to or is compatible with:
- Smart phone (Android or iOS). Minimum requirement: Android 8 or iOS 18
- Tablet (Android or iOS). Minimum requirement: Android 8 or iOS 18
- Android Automotive OS
- Android Auto
- Apple CarPlay
- Chromecast (android)
- Wear OS
- Apple Watch (watchOS)
Please note that it's not possible to download read and listen from your computer (MacBook or PC).
Unable to download the app
If you're experiencing issues when downloading the app, the operating system of your device might not meet the minimum requirements.
Please check to see if there are any available updates for your device and, if you were able to perform an update, try to download the app again.

Android Automotive OS
If you have a vehicle that's compatible with Android Automotive OS, you can download the Storytel app from the Google Play Store directly on your car. Simply open the Play Store app on the infotainment display in your car, search for "Storytel" and install the app.
Please note that Android Automotive OS is not the same as Android Auto. Android Automotive runs directly on your car's built-in hardware, while Android Auto runs on your phone.
Android Auto
If you have a vehicle that's compatible with Android Auto, you can connect your phone to view and control certain features of the Storytel app from your car display.
If your version of the operative system is Android 9 or below, you'll need to first download the app Android Auto on your phone.
Apple CarPlay
With Apple CarPlay, you can enjoy listening to audiobooks in your car without being distracted by your phone. CarPlay lets you view and control the Storytel app from your car's display. If your car supports CarPlay but you can't find the Storytel app on your display, make sure your phone and the Storytel app on your phone are updated to the latest version.
Chromecast (Android)
You can cast Storytel directly to your TV through Google Chromecast.
If you can't see the option to cast your screen, please make sure that you've updated your Storytel app and software of your phone. Please note: it's only possible to cast from android devices, not iOS.
If the device you want to case to isn't available, please make sure that the device you wish to cast Storytel from is connected to the same WiFi that your Chromecast device is connected to. You can see and change which WiFi your Chromecast is connected to in the Google Home app.
Wear OS
The Storytel app is installed directly on your watch via Google Play Store. The app syncs automatically with your watch just like it does with your phone, so you can pick up where you left off. You can easily adjust the listening speed or switch chapters.
Apple Watch
The app syncs automatically with your watch just like it does with your phone, so you can pick up where you left off. Easily adjust the playback speed or skip chapters.
